Yellowstone Back Country
SUMMER HORSEBACK CAMPING AND FISHING TRIPS
Watch the setting sun while sitting around a cozy campfire. Witness the birth of the new forests. See the explosion of new plant life, including millions of wildflowers. Sheep Mesa Outfitters recommends scheduling your summer vacation during the months of July through September. Select a time during the weeks surrounding a full moon and you will be assured of witnessing some spectacular moon-lit evenings.
Relax & enjoy yourself while our experienced mountain packers, wranglers & cooks provide a safe, enjoyable wilderness experience. We encourage you to get involved! Our Wranglers will help you saddle your own horse, wrangle the horses & mules and pack the string. You can even learn about the low impact camping techniques and methods we use to ensure that the greater Yellowstone Eco-system remains unspoiled.
Supplies and gear are packed in by horses & mules just as they were by trappers and mountain men a century ago. Travel into our summer back-country destinations is only by foot or horseback on remote mountain trails – leaving civilization behind.
Sheep Mesa Outfitters maintains a clean, comfortable wilderness camp, providing you with private tents. All of the equipment and horses are in excellent condition. We have mountain-wise horses and match each rider’s ability to the perfect horse – accommodating even the most novice of riders.
Enjoy some of the best food cooked in the high country! Dutch oven cooking – just as it was done in the 1800’s. For those with special food requirements, we invite you to help select your meals prior to your trip.
Washakie & Shoshone National Forest Packtrips

We offer private, group and family outdoor adventures into the most beautiful areas of Wyoming’s High Country. We prefer to serve private groups from 4 – 8 people.

Back-Country Adventures into Yellowstone National Park
Take a non-traditional, adventure vacation and explore the uncrowded back country of Yellowstone National Park; home to Elk, Buffalo, Moose, Mountain Sheep, Mule Deer, the Coyote, Grizzly Bear and Wolf. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy the abundance of rare and beautiful waterfowl and raptors. These include Trumpeter Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Pelicans, Bald Eagles, and Red-Tailed Hawks. With the recent reintroduction of the wolf to Yellowstone Park, the memory of his lonesome call is now a reality.
